FPLL season update: ACTION REQUIRED

Freeport Pownal Little League families,

FPLL’s Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel our regular season for 2020.

The Board followed the guidance of Little League International and the Maine CDC to suspend all activities until May 11. During that time, we also were in contact with the Town of Freeport and our insurance providers to assess additional considerations about field use & availability and liability risk. Prior to making a final decision on the season, we wanted to review the the State of Maine's published guidelines for non-professional, community sports programs which were released on May 20.

Safety is our primary concern. As a volunteer run league and taking all these data sources into consideration, we determined that we had to put the health and safety of our players and families before our own deep desire to have a season.

Refund Policy & Registration Fee Options:

FPLL incurred operating expenses prior to the COVID-19 pandemic for:

  • field improvements,
  • liability insurance,
  • Little League charter,
  • equipment/uniform purchases,
  • and fees incurred during the registration process.

Families have three options for their 2020 registration fees.

  1. Credit: Apply your 2020 registration fee to your account for the 2021 season.
  2. Donate: Your registration fee will support future scholarships for families needing financial assistance to play and field improvements at Pownal Road (new field) and Hunter Road (dugout improvements).
  3. Refund: Request a cash refund of your registration fee to your credit card. PLEASE NOTE, a $10 fee will be applied to each refund order. This is unfortunately necessary for our league not to incur further debt on this season.

REQUIRED ACTION:

  1. Open this Google Form
  2. Indicate your preference for your 2020 registration fee.
  3. Submit form by Sunday, May 31. We will begin processing requests after that time.
  4. For multiple players, i.e. siblings or foster children, you will need to submit a form for each. If possible, please enter the email address you used when you registered your player when filling out the form.

There are over 240 registrations to process, so we kindly ask that you make your requests through this Google Form. As an all-volunteer league, we cannot handle a large volume of individual requests by email. Thank you for understanding.

Other Resources:

Families can explore online resources such as the Dick’s Sporting Goods site for Little League. There are plenty of videos on YouTube if you search for “baseball training drills for youth” or “softball training drills for youth”.

We recognize that having opportunities for kids to be outside, be active, and have safe social interactions is important to their overall health and wellness as the pandemic stretches into summer vacation. FPLL will consider ways to provide some skill-building, modified scrimmages, or fun events if use of local fields is permitted for organized activities.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and all our volunteers, please know that we miss you and look forward to playing ball again in the future. We all wanted nothing more than to see the fields and dugouts full of smiling faces, but safety is always our number one concern.

Take care,

Board of Directors
